In a webinar on 'taking on and managing risk', we asked a panel of experts to share their advice for trustees and board directors concerned about the risks with taking on social investment.

The panel features:

  • Gemma Bell from Anthony Collins Solicitors LLP who talks about managing reputational risk and the link to good governance
  • Jonathan Orchard from Sayer Vincent LLP who talks about embracing risk and what boards need to know
  • Helen Thomson, a trustee at Sheffield Futures, who shares their experience of social investment via a Social Impact Bond.

The webinar was chaired by Melanie Mills, Senior Director of Social Sector Engagement at Big Society Capital.

The panel also answer questions from webinar attendees including how to stress-test an investment opportunity, how to assess sources of investment in terms of ethics and balancing the tension around what money to pursue.

Finally, each member of the panel shares their top tip for trustees and directors to take back to their board.

The webinar is in four parts: the first three focuses on a panel speaker and the last is the Q&A. You can watch the webinar below. You can also download the slides here.
