Briefing for mentees
Learn more about the mentoring support on offer and how it works
GET INFORMED: Social investment for boards is designed to help offer guidance and knowledge to help board members of social enterprises and trustees of charities who are potentially looking to receive or learn more about social investment to:- Understand what social investment is
- Gain knowledge of social investment through providing anecdotal evidence of how it has been used in the past
- Access support surrounding the kind of decisions that are made when taking on social investment
GET INFORMED Mentoring programme
After completing your mentee profile, we will assess whether we can help you. If we can, we will match you with a mentor who has social investment experience so you can have an easy way to find out about how social investment works. What you need to know
- Mentoring is peer support in the form of sharing knowledge, skills, experience and personal opinion. This relationship will not replace the need for professional advice or to undertake due diligence on any potential investments.
- Your mentor will be available for a minimum of 8 hours of support over a 6 – 12 month period.
How will it work
- Based on your details, you will be matched with a mentor. This is a one-to-one mentoring relationship with the aim of building knowledge and confidence.
- Matching with mentors will take into consideration geography. However, all support can be offered remotely by telephone, skype, email or any preferred use of communication between mentor and mentee.
- Meeting face-to-face will be encouraged but as this is a voluntary role, expenses cannot (except in exceptional and previously agreed circumstances) be covered by the campaign.
In addition
- We may develop a case study featuring you and your story as part of the campaign legacy
- We may ask you to be part of a video or events to support the campaign. Full preparation and support will be provided.
- We may also ask you to participate in surveys about the campaign.
Why get involved?
This is a great opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding on whether your organisation could use social investment as a tool to help deliver positive change. It is also an opportunity to build your networks. Through being paired with a mentor you will gain a unique insight into their organisation, their challenges and opportunities.Next steps
- The management of your participation in the mentoring programme will be run by Big Society Capital. We will aim to match you to a mentor within 14 days of receipt of a completed mentee profile, subject to availability.
- At the point of matching, you will be introduced to your mentor and given suggested next steps for getting in touch.
- Upon being matched you will be sent a mentor/mentee agreement to sign, which needs to be returned within a week of receipt. The agreement outlines the administration of the programme in more detail.
- You will also receive a series of follow-up emails from Big Society Capital enquiring about progress in your mentor/mentee relationship. Please provide feedback so we can support and measure the success of the mentoring programme.
